Water & health

In rural Congo, many women have to walk for over an hour to fetch water, an exhausting and often dangerous chore that deprives them of the chance to learn and work. We’ve built life-saving, essential water and sanitation infrastructure for the community at large, serving thousands.

Program highlights

  • Water Is Life

Our 32 new and refurbished wells—manual and solar-powered—bring clean water to over 36,000 people across the wider Kalebuka area. By reducing waterborne diseases and cutting the time spent collecting water, these wells give women and children more time to learn, work, and thrive in their communities.

  • Health check-ins

Health initiatives include community outreach, health education, and supplying free sanitary products for our students to break down the everyday stigma surrounding female health and ensure that girls stay in school when they start getting their period.

  • Community outreach

Through our outreach programs, Malaika actively engages with surrounding communities to better understand their challenges and needs. By building relationships, sharing knowledge, and offering support, we work hand-in-hand with families to foster sustainable change.
