Georges Malaika Foundation, operating as "Malaika," "we," "us," or "our" (244 Fifth Ave, Suite N225, New York, NY 10001, USA), is a U.S.-registered nonprofit organization operating education, health, and community programs in Kalebuka, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit malaika.org (the "Site") or interact with us through the Site.

This policy covers the Site itself. Once you submit information through the Site, it is stored and managed in our donor and constituent database (Salesforce), which is subject to its own access controls and security practices.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

When you use the Site, we may collect information you choose to give us, including:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, and the content of your message.

  • Newsletter signup: your email address, and optionally your name.

  • Donations: your name, email address, billing address, and payment details. Payment information is collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe, and is not stored directly by Malaika. We receive confirmation of your donation and the contact and billing details needed for receipts and record-keeping.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically through cookies and similar tracking technologies, including:

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system.

  • Pages visited, time spent on the Site, and referring/exit pages.

  • General location information (such as country or city, inferred from IP address).

We use the following tools to collect this information:

  • Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the Site.

  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel, to measure the effectiveness of our outreach and, where applicable, show relevant content to people who have visited our Site on Meta platforms.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to inquiries submitted through the contact form.

  • Send newsletters and updates to subscribers.

  • Process and acknowledge donations, and issue tax receipts.

  • Understand Site usage and improve content and navigation.

  • Measure and improve the reach of our fundraising and awareness campaigns.

  • Comply with legal, accounting, and reporting obligations as a registered nonprofit.

We do not sell your personal information.

  • Salesforce, our customer relationship management (CRM) platform, where submissions from the Site (contact, newsletter, and donation information) are stored and managed.

  • Stripe, to process donations securely.

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site (such as hosting and email delivery), under confidentiality obligations.

  • Legal authorities, if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Malaika, our community, or others.

We do not share your information with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Information submitted through the Site is stored in Salesforce. We retain personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this policy (for example, maintaining donor records for tax and accounting purposes), or as required by law.

6. International Data Transfers

Malaika is a U.S.-registered nonprofit, and information collected through the Site is generally processed and stored in the United States. Because our programs operate in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, some limited information may also be accessed by our team there in connection with program delivery. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data protection laws.

7. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the contact form, newsletter signup, or donation form. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through the Site, please contact us so we can remove it.

8. Your Rights and Choices
